At present, the global renewable energy generation is constantly increasing, but due to its high volatility, it is difficult to effectively and stably supply. The application of energy storage technology provides a good solution to this problem and has received attention from countries around the world, continuously introducing relevant policies to promote the development of energy storage. For example, the Energy Storage Investment Tax Credit (ITC) introduced by the United States, the Green New Deal in Europe, and the energy storage development plans of various governments in China have all played a positive role in promoting the development of the energy storage market.
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), in order to promote the rapid deployment of new solar photovoltaics and wind power and achieve triple growth in renewable energy, global energy storage capacity must increase sixfold to 1500GW by 2030. In the net zero emissions (NZE) scenario by 2050, battery energy storage will account for 90% of energy storage growth, and by 2030, it will increase 14 times to 1200GW. Battery energy storage shows broad development prospects in the global energy storage field.
Energy storage can be divided into power side, grid side, and user side energy storage according to application scenarios. Among them, power side and grid side energy storage are also known as pre meter energy storage or large-scale energy storage, while user side energy storage is also known as post meter energy storage. User side energy storage is divided into industrial and commercial energy storage and household energy storage. At present, large-scale energy storage still holds the majority of the global energy storage market share. However, in the past two years, industrial and commercial energy storage in user side energy storage has been on the rise. In 2022, the global industrial and commercial energy storage growth rate was only 14.58%, but by 2023, the newly installed capacity will reach 1.8GW, a year-on-year increase of 115%. The global industrial and commercial energy storage market is mainly concentrated in China, the United States, and Europe represented by Germany. Industrial and commercial energy storage focuses on meeting the electricity needs of specific locations, providing cost-effectiveness and operational support, while large-scale energy storage mainly serves grid level regulation and stability, solving larger scale power supply and demand balance problems.
